A Pharisee by the name of Nicodemus came secretly one night to see Jesus to talk to him. He recognized there was something different about Jesus. He must have seen Jesus in the temple performing miracles. He told Jesus, "We know that you are a teacher who came from God: for no man can do these miracles that you are doing, except God is with him." - vs. 2
Jesus immediately started telling him about spiritual things. "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus was confused by what Jesus shared with him. He thought that Jesus was talking about a natural birth in verse 4 by his question to Jesus - "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"
That would have been a natural question that we may have asked Jesus. Jesus went on to answer his question in verses 5 - 8. He spoke of both natural (earthly) things and spiritual principles. Nicodemus was still confused as to what Jesus was teaching him. He understood natural things, but was blinded about the spiritual truth that Jesus was teaching because he was not yet born again.
How many times have you been reading your Bible and the Holy Spirit spoke to you a truth in God's Word and you either didn't get it, or you decided not to believe it? Many times in our life we have made bad decisions that cost us when we knew what the Word of God taught about it, yet ignored the instruction. Disobedience is costly. Do you believe the Word of God?
"According to your faith, be it unto you." God has told us to take dominion over the earth. Jesus has given us the power over unlean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and diseases. Do you believe all of the Bible? The only part that works for you is the part you believe.
Jesus told his disciples, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing shall be impossible to you." Matthew 17:20 (NIV)
Jesus it telling us, "If you use your faith, and speak to your mountain to move, and believe, then nothing shall be impossible to you." Someone once said, "Believe, and receive. Doubt and do without." Do you believe?
